Surrealism Sunday

Hasn't the weather been perfect this weekend? I kind of regret not going out and about on Saturday day time and doing something.

Salvador Dali, bit of a weird one if you ask me but I really enjoy the surrealism of his work. No matter how many times I look at the same picture I always see something different or focus on something that changes the whole dynamics of the artwork.

I'll just give you a blurb of Wiki-wik info on Salvador Dali.

Dali had a very long spanish name which was shortened to Salvador Dali, he was born May 11th 1904 and died actually the same day I was born which is quite interesting; 23rd January 1989; so he was really old when he died, but don't tell my Grandparents that as they are at a similar age now.

Salvador Dali worked on a lot of the avant-garde and surreal films of the 1920's when film had realised its potential as works of art; most famously 'Un Chien Andalou' which I have watched... extremely weird and surreal. I was taught about avant-garde film at University and we were told to watch the films without having a point or plot in mind because there wasn't one. The films were made purely for art purposes... It didn't stop some of us from watching it and thinking at the same time 'WHAT ON EARTH?'. If you've ever watched avant-garde film you'd know exactly what I mean.

He's probably very well known for his cubism work and his 'melting clocks' as I can only describe them as such.

Self-Help Saturday

Sorry for posting so late,

I've been busy out and about all evening and completely neglected the idea of posting earlier in the afternoon!

This is a self-help post and I don't pretend to know everything about everything; also what tends to work for me may not work for others in the general scheme of things but what I can do is offer my idea of what I would do and see where you take it from there.

I guess this shall be a post of relaxation and de-stressing. I do believe that I can be a very relaxed person although looking closely at my life recently I have kind of realised that I tend to get a bit stressed out about things when they don't necessarily go the way I had planned for them to go; I also get a little fret up about things when I say something and the remark has not been taken by others the way I had posed for it to be interpreted.

The only thing I have been able to think of to counter-act the above is to just really take life as it comes; not to judge others for NOT being inside my head, I mean others can't possibly know what is going on in my brain so I only have myself to blame if I overreact at the response of a statement I have made; therefore take a deep breath smile and relax.

You are at the centre of your own universe but you are not at the centre of THE universe.

Fun Friday!

Hasn't the weather been amazing today!?

I loved it. I was in the office for most of it and managed to catch the late afternoon sun which I must admit was pretty hot anyway.

A spiritual post this evening. Can I just say that whoever didn't watch General Conference last weekend should have! It was very spiritual and inspiring. Sometimes I find myself wondering what my next step will be in life and lo and behold the Spirit will fill me with a feeling when I watch General Conference.

I also had my Patriarchal Blessing a couple of weeks ago. Some people won't even have a clue of what that is. It's not so much a secret as it is sacred and it is extremely hard to explain without people looking at me funny. But it was an amazing experience and I truly felt something overwhelm me that evening.

At General Conference we were told there are 14 million something members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints... 14 million. That is a lot, but it just goes to show that as the numbers keep going up and as more people return to the gospel after so many years (like me) that something is going on; somewhere.

This Sunday I am teaching the Primary lesson of 'I am Thankful for Birds and Insects'; I personally am not very thankful for spiders but I am sure some people are because they get rid of flies. I think lady birds are beautiful and I love butterflies.

I'm teaching the children about a very infamous testimony of our Heavenly Father in regards to birds and insects I shall briefly comment:

When the pioneers settled in Salt Lake and grew crops for their malnourished families a large swarm of crickets came from nowhere and ravished the corn and wheat that was being prepared for the families.

The pioneers were devastated and thought that all their crops would be eaten and the families would once again go unfed. With food on extremely low supply the pioneers through their faith in the Lord knelt down and prayed that the locusts and crickets would leave their crop and that there would be enough for their families to live on. All of a sudden there came a great swarm of seagulls who ate all the crickets leaving the corn and wheat untouched. Through their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and Our Heavenly Father the pioneers were saved.

There are so many little details to nature that we sometimes overlook or don't appreciate the true nature of; since we have such beautiful weather at the moment I know I'll be on the look out for more lady-birds and butterflies!

Travel Pass Thursday

Dear, Reader.

I shaln't make the post this evening too long. But I do just want to say that if you own a West Yorkshire or Metro bus pass... Don't EVER lose it.

I lost mine and I get a monthly just bus pass for £75.00. I'd only had it for 3 days aswell. I went into town with my receipt and asked at the Metro office if they could supply me with a new pass... To which the woman shook her head and said "It's like losing money"; they don't replace the passes. I could have crumbled up into a crying mess right there in front of her, but I walked upstairs and asked at the bus information desk. They asked me to ring the depot.

Luckily, mine was recovered at the bus depot but if it hadn't have been then I would have been totally, absolutely, well and truly; stuck.

I think I remember someone at work saying if you lose a First card they will replace it for you... I guess First cards are harder to duplicate.

I am going to Dewsbury this weekend. I've been a couple of places in Bradford this week like Bierley, Clayton, Daisy Hill, East Bowling, but apart from that... nowhere else on the travel list this week. Mildly interesting I know.

So, travel passes from Metro; don't lose them.

Tuesday's With Morrie... Or rather Wednesday's

Evening,

My mum and sister, Bethany, have this thing about books. Whenever I see them they are either nose deep in a juicy novel or they are talking about the book they are in the middle of; and I must admit most of the time I haven't got a clue of what they are talking about.

But, years ago; back in my A-Level years so at least 4 years ago now (WOW... me old), my teacher introduced me to Mitch Albom, the first novel I read was 'The Five People You Meet in Heaven'. If you haven't read this book, then you should. No joke. You really should go to the Library now and borrow it or buy it from a book store; better yet you can borrow it from me.

It is a brain-turned-on-make-you-think book, but it makes you look at life in a whole different way; even if you forget about it after you've finished reading the book; you'll want to read it again to remember.

I won't explain too much because that'll spoil the book. But, an old man works in a fair-ground at the end of an old pier and he closes his eyes and suddenly he is in the after-life or rather some sort of limbo area where he is met one after an other by five people that have been in his life at some point or another; whether it was for an hour or a decade or even five minutes. He tries to work out who the fifth person may be all the way through the book, and by the end of it you're crying buckets (at least those wimps like me will be).

It makes you think; who will I meet when I die? Even if you don't believe in the after-life.

Mitch Albom has also written: 'Tuesday's With Morrie'; 'For One More Day' and 'Have a Little Faith' (which I have just started reading).

Another thing that is so great about a Mitch Albom novel is that they are a 'Bank-Holiday Book'; you can read them over a long weekend; in such a short space of time it can impact you quite greatly.

There's a Bank Holiday coming up soon right?

Tri-Coloured Tuesday!

Good evening!

So, as you know from my previous post, fashion isn't high on my list of important things in life. Recently my mum has told me that I am 'Spring'. That my colouring is 'Spring', so I looked it up online and found:

These are my 'Spring' colours, so although the things I wear may not be fashionable or 'in season' they at least go right with the colour of my skin; or something like that. Well, I'll get there in the end. :)

Then, I was told to buy a few key items of clothing in a 'Spring' colour and base my wardrobe around those. Presumably, a suit; a dress; a skirt; a top... etc you know the bare minimum.

But, what I found was this beautiful dress-top (could be worn as a dress for those daring enough to wear just leggings) underlined with a white v-neck detailed shirt. I can also pair the dress-top with any cream, green or mustard yellow Tee; and my wardrobe grows.

The dress-top is perfect for my 'Spring' colour combination because it contains pretty much three of the most prominant colours on the 'Spring' colour chart; green, golden yellow/cream and brown; pair this with my golden- brown hair and I have a 'Spring' colour code perfect for SPRING! I'm sure there is a warm/cold chart aswell for different times of the year, but let's not over-complicate things! I know, it makes me sound like I know what I'm talking about. I might keep an eye on this 'Colour code' malarky. :)

Mixed up Monday!

To anyone who stumbles across this,

My name is Grace. I'm 22 years old and sometimes I forget and once I told someone I was still 21. What's the Bingo call for 22?

I'm trying to bring a uniqueness to my blog; and hopefully this time it'll last longer than 2 weeks.

When trying to decide what to write in a blog I thought of everything:

Fashion: If you've met me, you'll know I'm a comfort clothes wearer, whatever feels right I'll wear. I'm useless at fashion, and I have no money to spend on magazines.

Books & Literature: They take a while to read and I wouldn't post everyday with them and I want to try and make this an habitual thing. I like to write poems and short stories as and when my brain decides to wander into a world of its own but again not a daily thing.

Travel: I go places as and when I can. I am thinking of doing some sort of travel around Yorkshire on my bus pass and visiting as many places on the alphabet as I can find. I thought I'd be stuck for Q until I realised there is a Queensbury in Bradford.

Church: I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. We've just experienced the Semi-Annual Conference so I could have written a blog on my experiences at church but again I wouldn't be posting daily.

Self-Help: You know there are so many self help blogs around these days, how to get yourself out of a rut? How to make money in 10 days? How to knit? etc... The list is actually endless so why not share my fair deal of self-help info.

Art: I really love art and history and the both of them mixed together to make some sort of Michael Angelo painting. I love visiting galleries and looking at the modern art of life and the way contemporary art seems to be a red circle on a white piece of paper, but I also love the detail of the Rennaisance artists among other randoms. I am a secret fan of Charles Rennie Macintosh (I blame my GCSE art project on this love).

News & Daily Affairs: What's going on in the world today and how I feel about it.

So I guess this blog is a mix of everything. Sorry that this post is so long. I am grateful to those of you who've stuck it out and I hope to see you here tomorrow! I think I'll post one of each a week, since I've just realised I've made myself seven categories.
